Paul West's Guide to Using a Georgie Portable Raised Garden Bed

Not everyone has the luxury of a large backyard to grow food in. The good news is that having no yard doesn’t mean that you can’t grow a stack of delicious food, even in a compact space.
For aspiring growers that are short on space, a Portable Raised Garden Bed like Georgie is the perfect solution.
Paul West from Grow It Local has been growing with one for the last six weeks, and here’s what he loved about using a Georgie.
Watering
Georgie contains a Self-Watering Wicking System which means that there is a reservoir in the base of the planter that naturally wicks water up to the soil above and the thirsty roots. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to be as vigilant with your watering and as long as there is water in the reservoir, your plants have moisture when they need it, keeping them nice and healthy!

Protection Canopy
Growing a small garden can leave your precious plants very vulnerable to pests. Georgie’s Protection Canopy deters pests like birds, possums and insects, while still allowing light and rain to get to your plants. It’s also super easy to access, with solid zippers on either side allowing you to roll up the side panel and access your crops. The other unexpected benefit Paul found with the Protection Canopy is that it creates a microclimate for your plants. This slightly increases the ambient temperature inside the canopy and deflects strong winds. It made the perfect environment for the plants to grow rapidly.

Portability
Paul set up Georgie on the Metal Trolley, with heavy duty caster wheels, allowing him to move it around to make sure it’s always in the perfect position. Georgie doesn't need to be moved on a daily basis but for example at the end of winter you'll want to catch warm, westerly sun in the afternoon, but as spring heads into summer, you'll want less of the afternoon sun and more gentle morning sun. The other thing Paul loved about Georgie being set up on the Metal Trolley was that it raised his veggies up to bench height. No bending down to weed and harvest!

Georgie can grow A LOT of food!
The thing that Paul loved the most about growing in Georgie was how much food it produced. He was genuinely amazed at how quickly the plants grew and how abundant the harvests were in such a short period of time. In around four weeks, Paul went from an empty bed to a garden bed overflowing with produce! More than enough to keep his family of four in a constant supply of leafy greens and herbs. How great is that!
