Getting Started with Your Raised Garden Bed

Backyard Farmer’s Raised Garden Beds are the perfect solution for growing fresh veggies, herbs and blooms in your patch.

The Medium Raised Garden Bed is big enough to grow plenty and compact enough to fit most spaces. The Large Raised Garden Bed offers more space for more to harvest - great for spacious backyards.

1. Start with Assembly

Assemble your raised garden bed and choose a space for it in your backyard.

2. Prepare the Bed

Line the bed with a weed mat to help protect the timber. This will also help reduce weed growth whilst retaining water for healthy plants and soil.

3. Decide What You're Planting

Decide what you’re planting. Check out our Growing Guide for inspiration or select your own plants using a growing guide for your climate.

4. Know Your Potting Mix

Add plants in the bed and fill the surrounding gaps with soil. You will need 175L to fill the large bed and 85L to fill the medium bed. In Australia, look for the premium red Australian Standards Mark ticks, in New Zealand look for premium labelled potting mixes.

5. Watering Advice

Water the plants from above for the first week or two. Once the plants have settled in, switch to less frequent but deeper watering to encourage strong root growth.
