Our trellis has been UV-stabilized and is strong and durable for its intended use.

Raised Garden Beds

How does the built-in watering system work for the raised garden beds?

The raised garden beds watering system allows water to seep out from the soil to a water retention area in the base of the unit, this stops the raised beds from being over-watered.

How long should I set my dripper timer in my raised garden bed?

The dripper timer can be set depending on what you have planted in your raised garden bed. See here for watering guidelines and more information.

Crop Protection

Can the netting be cut?

Netting can be cut to desired size using a sharp pair of scissors.

What is crop protection netting?

Crop protection netting helps your fruit/vegetables from insects, birds and extreme weather conditions. In saying that, it will still allow air, light and water to pass through.  Netting increases your crop yield and lowers the chance of it being damaged or ruined by external factors.

How do I install my bird netting correctly?

Netting is most effective and safe for wildlife when it is installed using a structure and pulled tautly – netting should not be draped directly over the tree as wildlife may become easily tangled in it.

Once pulled taut, netting should be secured neatly and firmly with pegs, nails, bricks, or even rocks – this will reduce the possibility of wildlife getting inside or ground creatures (such as snakes and other ground dwelling critters ) becoming tangled

*Tip - It can be tricky installing netting in general, so best to do it on a calm day

Can I get green netting?

We only supply white netting as it allows wildlife, especially nocturnal animals,  to see it easier compared to other colour options such as black or green

Is my netting safe for year-round use?

Yes, it is suitable for all seasons as it can withstand frost and UV protected for harsh Aussie summers.

What’s the safest bird netting for wildlife and animals?

5mm x 5mm aperture bird netting is safe as it complies with the strictest legal requirements in the country – this is in Victoria under the “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2019”.  We also suggest you check out legal requirements for your specific state.

Is Backyard Farmer anti-bird netting legally compliant?

As we are a national supplier of anti-bird netting, we make sure our netting is manufactured to comply with the highest national standard.
